Lisburn Rugby Club
Rugby has been around in Ireland for over a century now and many cities, communities and districts have their own rugby clubs that compete in domestic competitions. The Lisburn Rugby Club is such a club. Located in the town of Lisburn in North Ireland, the club draws on local part-time players from the community. While the club isn’t one of the most prestigious, it has had a long and reasonably successful history, having won the Towns Cup, the McCambley Cup and the Harden Cup.
Lisburn Rugby Club plays a major role in the community and encourages the entire locality to take part in its events and get-togethers. The club also sports Junior League teams and Women’s teams, hence making it something the whole family can get involved in, even at a young age. And the fact that the pictures gallery recently achieved 10,000 hits gives us an idea of the growing popularity that the club has managed to retain.
Though one shouldn’t be fooled by the family atmosphere, Lisburn Rugby Club is an extremely ambitious team and is looking to excel in future rugby competitions. Their Under 18 squad is the best in the league, and strong up and coming talent can only mean good things for a club. The aim of the club, as stated by the president, is to encourage players to fulfil their potential in a friendly and welcoming environment, and as the statement reads, the club’s first goal is to provide the community with fun place to play rugby under appropriate conditions.
Lisburn Rugby Club are definitely a club on the up, having advanced by strides in the past few years the club has managed to survive the recession in rugby over the past decade by expanding its horizons. With a strong foundation all set up, the club is raring to fulfil its ambitions and become a leading rugby club in the region. |
