Lisburn Rugby Club – Youth

To help generate new talent and keep up interest in the sport of rugby, Lisburn Rugby Club has started a very popular Junior Section. The Junior Club supports three teams, the Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18. Currently the youth teams take part in the South Youth League.

The main goal of the youth team is to consistently generate new talent for the Ulster Teams and other parent clubs. The teams are reasonably successful, with the Under 18s doing particularly well, having many of their players involved with Ulster Youth. In fact the Under 18s have won all six of their games so far this season, and are sitting comfortably on the top of their league table.

To further promote itself, Lisburn Rugby Club Youth has set up its own website which details its progress and match timings. Also the club is constantly on the lookout for new talent, and youngsters can quite literally walk of the street, join a training session and prove their mettle. Lisburn Rugby Club takes great pride in their youth system as they know that the future of the club depends on it.

Additionally providing the community with good training facilities and coaching staff for their children helps gather support for the football clubs and allows it to maintain a strong fan base for many generations to come. As the team’s mission statement reads, “It is the aim of Lisburn Rugby Club to promote the enjoyment of the game of rugby by creating a safe, caring environment where all members can develop at their own level, free from harm and undue danger.” Safety is a top priority, and by providing the kids with top class facilities in a safe environment, interest in rugby has remained high through the years and at the same time it offers kids a means to enjoy something that is in a controlled environment and will hopefully deter the use of drugs and getting involved in other dangerous activities.
